The Flying Sixpacks

A documentary movie about the motorcycle group The Flying Sixpacks. Together with Joana Nueve I created 2D animations to visually explain and demonstrate mechanical problems encountered by the motorcycles, making complex technical information easier to understand.

Process

Because the motorcycles featured in the film were specific models, reference images and graphics were collected from motorcycle magazines to accurately recreate their appearance.

The animation was created as a combination of frame-by-frame animation and Blender-based compositing. My collaborator created the hand-drawn animations used to visualize the mechanical problems, such as escaping air and moving cables. I assembled and animated the motorcycle scenes in Blender, including the movement of the bikes and wheels, camera zooms, highlights, and visual emphasis on the affected parts.

I also animated the on-screen typography, added effects and scene settings and handled the final rendering and post-production. The goal was to make the technical problems visually clear and easy to follow within the documentary.
